My box of 20 Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970 Belicosos arrived yesterday and I pulled one right away. A little rough looking with a few small veins and a messy cap but a beautiful dark brown color. Hard to put my finger on the pleasing prelight aroma. Strong tobacco flavour, shots of spice and cocoa from the first puff. Wonderful sweet aroma and a long finish. Draw was a bit tight at first but not enough to stop me from getting lots of smoke. Not an everyday cigar for me but certainly worth having for those times when a strong cigar is the right cigar, like after a heavy meal of roast beef and red wine.

This Jewel of Nicaragua will grab you by the scruff of the neck, march you out back to the woodshed and give you a good whuppin'! Very well made, with a superb draw and voluminous smoke, this potent cheroot is packed with ligero, producing pronounced flavors of leather, dark earth, and cedar. The finish is long and spicy. Order yourself a bag of Nicaraguan Knife Fight coffee from Absolute Cigars, brew up a cup thick enough to float a screwdriver, and put your butane flame to one of these belicosos. It's an experience you won't soon forget.
